Black Girls Read: A Love Letter to Our Book Sisters

Some of us have always had our noses in a book. And we wouldn't have it any other way.

There's something special about Black women and books. We read them. We recommend them. We talk about them with our girlfriends. We stay up way too late trying to finish just one more chapter. And when we find a book we love, everybody needs to know about it.

Reading has long been part of our culture. It's how we learn about our history, discover new perspectives, escape into another world, and sometimes see a little bit of ourselves in someone else's story.

And Black women have given the literary world some extraordinary stories to tell.

The Women Who Tell Our Stories

From the unforgettable words of Toni Morrison and Alice Walker to the contemporary storytelling of Kennedy Ryan, Tia Williams, and Terry McMillan, Black women authors have been telling stories that stay with us long after we've turned the last page.

They've written about love, family, friendship, heartbreak, joy, identity, and everything in between.

Some books make us laugh. Some make us cry. And some make us sit quietly for a minute after finishing that last chapter because we just aren't ready to let the characters go.

That's the beauty of a good book.

And there's something especially meaningful about reading stories where we recognize ourselves, our mothers, our sisters, and our friends.

There's Nothing Like a Book Sister

If you know, you know.

There's nothing like having a girlfriend who loves books as much as you do. The one who texts you at midnight because she just finished a chapter. The one who insists you read her latest favorite. The one who understands why you're still thinking about a fictional character three days later.

Whether it's a book club, a favorite bookstore, or a conversation with a stranger who happens to be reading the same novel, books have a way of bringing us together.

And we love that.

Why We Created Black Girls Read

I've always loved to read. And when I started Heritage Pin Co., I wanted our collections to celebrate the things that make our culture so special.

Our history. Our traditions. Our creativity. Our stories.

And of course, our love of books.

That's how Black Girls Read came to life.

I wanted to create something for my fellow book sisters. Something fun, beautiful, and a little personal. A way to celebrate that part of ourselves that will always find room for one more book.

What started with our Black Girls Read bag charm has grown into a little collection of its own, with a matching enamel pin and sticker.

Each piece is a celebration of the women who love a good story and the authors who keep giving us reasons to turn the page.

Because reading isn't just something we do. For so many of us, it's part of who we are.

Here's to the book sisters. The late-night readers. The bookstore wanderers. The women with a stack of books waiting at home and absolutely no plans to stop buying more.

This one's for us.
